Birth Support

Looking for training to become a doula or for birth support for your family? Portland is home to a variety of organizations that offer quality and diverse resources to meet your needs.

Doula Love is an organization that provides DONA Birth Doula Training, Introduction to Childbirth, ICEA Childbirth Education Workshops and Foundation of Lactation 101.

Mothertree Birth offers DONA Birth and Postpartum Doula Training, Lamaze Educator Training and Doula Internship Programs internationally.

DONA provides international birth and postpartum doula training and information for parents on the roles and benefits of having a doula.

DONA’s mission is to provide training and certification opportunities for doulas of varied cultures, educational backgrounds, ethnic backgrounds and socio-economic levels.

Postpartum Emotional Support

If you are looking for additional postpartum support around loss, grief or postpartum mood disorders, these local non-profits are doing outstanding work in our community.

Baby Blues Connection provides support, information, and resources to women and families coping with pregnancy and postpartum mood disorders, and to the professionals who serve them.

Brief Encounters is a nonprofit, nonsectarian group for parents whose babies have died before, during, or after birth. Brief Encounters provides meetings in the greater Portland, Oregon area, as well as local phone support.

Breastfeeding

The breastfeeding relationship between a mother and child is a beautiful yet sometimes complex journey that often needs additional support from a trained specialist. These organizations offer a variety of services from Lactation Consultants to breast-milk banking.

Birthingway Breastfeeding Center provides free support to you and your baby to help create and maintain a healthy and satisfying breastfeeding relationship. Our services are available to all mothers in the Portland Metro Area!

Nursing Mothers Council of Portland is local non-profit organization that aims to support, promote and protect mothers’ breastfeeding goals.

La Leche League International is an international nonprofit organization that distributes information on and promotes breastfeeding.

Northwest Mothers Milk Bank is a non-profit organization whose mission is to collect, pasteurize, and distribute donor human milk for medical needs.

Awareness

The International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC).
